Pangwala tribe In Himachal Pradesh 

Pangwala People residing in Pangi region of Chamba is known as Pangwala tribe. Tad tribe also reside in this region. This is an inaccessible area of the state which is not yet connected by any proper road network. According to folk tales, some Rajputs of Muslim Era came and settled here along with their families and slaves. This tribe has the lowest literacy rate. 

Standard of Living Their main food items are wheat, barley, grains and mustard. Males wear woollen trouser and kurta whereas females wear woollen kurta and sleek pants which is called 'Bali'. These people also wear silver ornaments like Nanti or Murkhi (ear ornaments of males). They are mostly pastoralists and rear goats and sheep.

 Religious Trends These people are mostly Hindu and worship Lord Shiva, devi and snakes. The famous temples of this place are Minhal Basaar Devi, Mirkhula Devi and Sita Devi. These people celebrate many festivals like 'Magi' on Sankranti and Bissu on Baisakhi. Janji' or 'Jani Vivah' is a very divine marriage here. Apart from the mentioned tribes, there are several other tribal communities. Among them Domba tribal group has lowest population in the state. Sex ratio is lowest among Beta tribal group and highest among Kanaura.Highest literacy rate is among Lahaula tribal group of Himachal Pradesh.
