Chenab River

This river is formed by two streams namely Chandra and Bhaga which meet at Tandi in Lahaul and Spiti to form the river Chenab at an elevation of 2286 m. The Vedic name of Chenab river is Askiniand its Sanskrit name is Chandrabhaga The total length of this river is 960 km.Out of which it covers a length of 122 km in Himachal Pradesh. It flows in the Northern part of the state. In terms of volume, Chenab is the largest river of the Himachal Pradesh. The path of Chenab river covers many regions. For example, it covers Pangi valley of Chamba district near Bhujind and after leaving the district at Sansari Nala, it enters Podar valley of Kashmir. The Great Himalayan and Pir Panjal ranges form the Chenab valley.
