Beas River

This river originates from Beas Kund in the Pir Panjal range near the Rohtang Pass and it intersects the Dhauladhar mountain ranges at Larji. Its Vedic name is Arjikiya and its Sanskrit name is Vipasha. It flows through the world famous valleys of Kullu and Kangra. The world famous tourist resort of Manali is situated on the right bank of this river. From Manali, this holy river reaches the town of Kullu after passing through dense evergreen forests. The total length of this river is 470 km but it flows about 256 km in central Himachal Pradesh. Important settlements along its banks are Manali,Naggar, Katrain, Ralson, Kullu, Pandoh,Mandi,Nadaun and Sujanpur. At Sandhol the Beas river enters Kangra and at Banjaura it enters Mandi district where several small rivulets join it like Hansa, Tirthan, Bakhli, Jiuni, Suketi, Panddi, Son and Bather. At Mirthal, the Beas river enters the plain areas.

It originates from the Dhauladhar range in the Kangra valley of Himachal Pradesh. Before merging with Beas river, Awa river flows in a South-Westerly direction. It is fed by both snow as well as rain water from smaller streams.
